About Us

To teach Valley Shore residents to read, write, and speak English to improve their work and life skills in their communities.

Preparing for the Future, One Word at a Time

We serve the towns of Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Guilford, Killingworth, Lyme, Madison, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook. We support individuals in our community to improve their English Language skills through one-on-one free tutoring services. We help more than 220 community residents from more than 65 different countries. And we receive inquiries from potential students all the time. We also have a list of students waiting for tutors because the demand is ever-increasing. So, we always welcome new tutors. As we look to the future, we will continue to grow. With your help and support, we’ll continue to create the future — one student, one tutor, and one word at a time.

Staff

Our offices are in the lower level of the Westbrook Public Library. They’re afforded us, at no charge, through the generosity of the Library and the Town of Westbrook. We’re proud to partner with the Library to meet the needs of emerging adult readers and all students of the English language.

We thank the Library for all it does for us, for our tutors, and for our students.

Through a grant from the Westbrook Foundation, the Library offers free access to Mango Languages, an online language study program. In addition, the Library has a special collection of materials for tutors and students to supplement our own collection.

Anytime you come to visit our office, please go upstairs and browse through the Library. You’ll be almost as grateful as we are.
